Background
Created by the founders of Logos DAO, Shield3 provides web3 security and compliance for developers. The tool enforces policies for transactions generated by applications, and monitors the platform for policy violations, making it possible to operate safe & compliant web3 applications and satisfy reporting requirements.
Shield3 scans and monitors transactions generated by the application and the application’s users. The platform delivers alerts and explanations, and takes real-time action to mitigate problems, integrating with any wallet and supporting the major blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Polygon, Optimism and more.
The Shield3 team has completed several successful integrations to augment their platform – including Forta to provide real-time threat data, Alchemy as an RPC provider for communicating with the blockchain, and Dynamic & Privy for embedded wallet support.
The creators of Shield3 enlisted Protokol as a technical partner to build and launch a fully functional, interoperable platform with smooth and intuitively designed UI, ensuring a seamless user experience.
Approach
Strategic planning meetings were held, with a needs analysis conducted to determine the best course of action to ensure the platform launched smoothly, as well as a technical appraisal to outline the most logical technology stack to pursue.
Meanwhile, Protokol’s design team began their planning with exploratory meetings with the Shield3 founders to discuss their brand identity, aims, and expectations. Thorough research was conducted, considering various market sources and competitive analysis.
Protokol’s technical staff got to work visualising the backend infrastructure required to run such a platform. The team worked on developing a method of storing user’s wallet transaction history, utilising durable NoSQL storage connected to a DynamoDB database hosted via AWS.
‘Passwordless’ authentication using one-time codes was implemented to ensure a smooth user experience when accessing the platform. For users connecting their wallets to Shield3, the Protokol team developed a background scanning mechanism to protect the wallets from security threats automatically via a distributed job queue model.
Protokol’s frontend developers created a Shield3 dApp, offering enhanced security functionality including custom policies that can be used to block abnormal transactions, such as transfers of a certain value or unverified contacts that cannot be decoded. These suspect transactions are flagged on the Shield3 platform and trigger two-factor authentication to verify the user’s intentions.
A blockchain solution was designed with the appropriate APIs and SDKs being integrated. This was followed by a rigorous trial and testing regime, as well as discussions about ongoing maintenance and scaling for the platform.

The creators of Shield3 needed a skilled technical and strategic partner to help them realise their vision and create a security tool that individuals and businesses can rely on to keep their assets safe as they traverse the web3 landscape.
