Web3 and blockchain solutions provider Protokol announces its involvement in the EBSI VECTOR project; a European Union-funded initiative aimed at creating a secure, efficient and decentralised framework for exchanging and verifying digital educational and professional credentials across borders. The project is part of the broader European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) initiative, which aims to create a trusted, interoperable framework for blockchain-based services across the EU.

As a partner in the EBSI VECTOR project, Protokol’s expertise in blockchain technology will be leveraged to deliver crucial elements of the credential verification solution. The goal is to make it easier for EU citizens to have their credentials, such as diplomas or work experience, recognised and accepted in different countries, as well as to improve the efficiency and security of credential verification processes. The result will be a scalable solution that can be rolled out in many different countries, and will ultimately incorporate other EU initiatives like EUeID and SDG to provide the best possible solution for digital interaction between citizens and organisations.

“Our involvement in the EBSI VECTOR project aligns closely with our broader mission to create scalable and interoperable blockchain solutions that drive innovation and change,” said Lars Rensing, CEO of Protokol. “We believe that blockchain and Web3 technology have enormous potential to transform a wide range of industries and prepare them for the future, from manufacturing and logistics to education, sports, retail, gaming and more. By working on this project, our team of blockchain experts are excited to help realise this potential and make a positive, lasting impact on society.”

Protokol’s role in the consortium of partners

The EBSI VECTOR project is the latest step in the ongoing effort to create a more open, secure, and decentralised digital infrastructure for Europe and the world. The project is being developed by a consortium of partners from across Europe, including universities, research institutions, and technology companies, each bringing their expertise to make the project successful.

Protokol’s involvement in the EBSI VECTOR project is a testament to its expertise in blockchain technology and commitment to driving innovation and change. It will help deliver several technical elements of the project, including the development of an open-source reference wallet that will allow legal entities that issue and verify credentials to interact with EBSI.

Protokol will also contribute in the development of holder wallets and the issuance of these to citizens, to store their digital credentials; while Protokol’s experience in user-friendly design will also be utilised in developing the cross-border user journey.

To allow for the revocation and suspension of records as needed, Protokol will assist in the testing and validation of eSSIF capabilities. Protokol will also help prepare the implementation track for education businesses.

Prokotol’s expertise will benefit this important initiative to help create a more secure, efficient, and trusted digital infrastructure for the future.

“We’re excited to have Protokol onboard the EBSI VECTOR project,” said Daniël Du Seuil, Convenor European Self Sovereign Identity Framework (EBSI) at the EU Commission. “Their profound blockchain and Web3 expertise will be invaluable in our mission to enhance the digital credential verification process. Their commitment to innovation aligns perfectly with our goals for the EBSI infrastructure, and we anticipate their contribution to be pivotal in optimising our services for a more secure and decentralised digital future in Europe.”

“We are proud to be part of the EBSI VECTOR initiative and to be working alongside other leading organisations to create a more open, secure, and decentralised digital infrastructure for Europe and beyond,” said Rensing. “We look forward to continuing to collaborate with our partners and to help drive the adoption of blockchain technology in the years to come.”
